 The Source From Which Freedom Springs

The following was written during a nation debate regarding the personal corruption of a public figure.

It is self-evident that those who will not govern themselves cannot be trusted with self government. John Adams, our second president said "The Constitution is completely and wholly capable of governing a good and righteous people, and completely and wholly incapable of governing any other kind." The freedom of this people depends on each individual maintaining high moral and ethical standards.

We must not only maintain these high standards ourselves, but instill these standards in our children that the blessings of liberty might be secured, not only to ourselves, but to our posterity as well. We must also insist on the same level of behavior on the part of our elected officials. Personal corruption will soon be manifested as public corruption.

Any society that will uphold and support corruption in high places, will shortly descend into the depths of the abyss. Our freedom was purchased with the sacred blood of those who more than self, their country loved. Let us not now discard so rare a gift.

Tolerance of vice, is no virtue, and the intolerance thereof, is no vice, but may be life! Vice is poison to a free society, as a free society cannot long endure without virtue, and virtue and vice cannot coexist. One will displace the other.

Once a majority support evil over good, that civilization must shortly lose its tenuous hand hold, and descend the slippery slope. Let us pray that this is not the case with us (U.S.).

Many now abuse their freedom in a manor that will most assuredly destroy the very rights that they now exercise, not just for themselves, but for us all.

Alexis de Tocqueville, a French author, after visiting America said:

I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers; and it was not there; in her fertile fields and boundless prairies; and it was not there; in her rich mines and her vast world commerce; and it was not there. Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good; and if America ever ceases to be good; America will cease to be great.

While church and state should be separate, faith and freedom are just as inseparably connected as goodness and greatness. Those who attempt to separate a people from God, are most assuredly attempting to separate them from the source of their freedom.

For more than five thousand years, man has attempted to extract himself from the primordial slime pit, by grasping for another sure hand hold. There is only one anchor for the souls of men, only one true hand hold. Of a truth I perceive, that when Moses came down from the mountain he did not have the ten suggestions.

Many now dismiss the objections raised by people of faith, to corrupt laws, simply because they could be religiously based. Should we legalize lying, or stealing, or murder, or adultery simply because these are mentioned in the ten commandments? If we base our answer on current practices, we have already done so.¹ Objections based on religion are just as valid, if not more so; than objections raised on any other basis.

Why sit we in a stupor? Why do we suffer the corrupt to rule? Can sweet water come from a bitter fountain, or bitter from the sweet spring? When the evil engage in good, is it to be seen of men? Is it because they must have public support if they are to retain what they really want: the power to continue a corrupt agenda? If the wolf has been forced to don sheep's clothing, take no consolation. Note how well the wolf feeds!

Awake, my soul! No longer droop in despair. Rejoice, and give place no more for the enemy of the soul, who is the enemy of freedom. Do not slacken our strength because of the enemy. Rejoice, and proclaim freedom again through out the land. Be clean America. Cleanse the inner vessel, and then the outer. Let freedom ring again, and again. Arise America, lest freedom perish from the earth forever.

¹ The supreme court of Washington ruled that lying in political campaigns was legal. The government, which derives its just powers from the people, regularly takes money from some, against their will, and gives it to others. Yet, those men from whom they supposedly received that power, have no authority to play Robin Hood, if they attempted it, they would go to jail for stealing. Assisted suicide, and partial birth abortion surely qualify as the taking of human life. Adultery and fornication laws are not enforced.
