On Dec. 23, 2001, I learned that a bill had been introduced into congress to create the Department Of Peace, a cabinet level office charged with “Enforcing Peace”.  This proposal was clothed in deceptive Constitutional garb.

H.R. 2459

To establish a Department of Peace. (Introduced in the House)

The following is my response to this proposal.

During the struggle in Nicaragua, in the 1980's, some argued, in the name of peace, that we should stop sending arms to the Contra's or "Freedom Fighters" who opposed the communist government.  Others favored supporting the Contra's, in the name of freedom.  Who could possibly be against either peace or freedom.  Thus the arguments from both sides were arrayed in virtuous apparel.  Neither addressed the real question, "Who do you want to win, the Communists or the Freedom Fighters?"

Peace!  Such a cherished and noble goal.  Freedom, so rare a gift.  Why must we choose between them?

We the People of the United States of America established our government to, among other things, bring Domestic Tranquility, a Tranquility that has so often been shattered for political expediency.  Race is pitted against race, women against men, employees against employers, poor against the rich.  I was once encouraged to file a law suit against a doctor who saved my daughters life, because there were a couple of bumps on her road to recovery.  The left uses class envy to achieve their goals.  The rich are evil and greedy, and the poor are virtuous, as if money were a measure of anything or everything.  I had always been taught that greed was much like coveting, desiring that which is not my own.  The language has been perverted.  The poor look upon the property of the rich, with eyes filled with greed, and call it need.  The rich, who actually earned the money, create the wealth and take the risks, are accused of being greedy because they desire to keep the fruits of their labors.  Thus the old greed is the new need, and the right to life, liberty and property is now described as greed. Vice has become virtue, and virtue, vice.

The Constitution contains the phrase, "Establish Justice".  It is significant that it does not use the word fairness.  Fairness is not possible to achieve.  It was not fair that Southern Blacks were never properly educated, or employed in the 1950's.  The remedy?  Deprive the businessman of his right to make his own decisions in hiring.  The Government must be completely color blind.  All men are equal before the law.  All men have the same rights under our Constitution.  None of my rights, however, impose requirements upon my fellow creatures.  I enjoy freedom of speech, but, none are required to listen.  I am now exercising my freedom of the press, however, you are not required to read what I write!  Justice is barely achievable.  Fairness, is subjective, and transitory.  Indeed, fairness to one man results in injustice to another.  Fairness and justice shall forever compete with one another, until the hearts of men change.  Teach them correct principles, and they will govern themselves.  The principle here is “In as much as ye have done it to the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” or “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”

If we establish a Department of Peace, there will be no peace.  How much peace does a beast of burden enjoy?  Slavery is not a peaceful experience.  The peace card will be played only when the enemy desires that we surrender to them.  I would venture to say that peace activists also advocated the violent overthrow of White Rule in South Africa, if other means did not achieve the desired result.  A department of Peace would be properly named "Department of Surrender".  The aggressor only seeks victory.  If the goal of his victim is peace, surrender will result.

The Constitution also contains the words "Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity".  Liberty!  A word also carefully selected.  Some feel that Freedom and Liberty are different spellings for the same word.  How wrong they are.  Some define freedom in such a way as to make it interchangeable with the word absence.  Freedom is the absence of hunger, thirst, fear and discomfort of every kind.  Some even feel that true freedom will only come when they are free from work.  Those who define freedom thusly believe that freedom is achieved only after everything has been taken away, or so logic would dictate.  Liberty, on the other hand, implies that we must make our own decisions, and live with the consequences whether they be good or ill.  Liberty, the right to make our own choices.  Liberty, the right to act, and choose, to sow and harvest.  John Adams noted that "The Constitution is completely and wholly capable of governing a good and righteous people, but completely and wholly incapable of governing any other kind."  Thus we see that those who will not govern themselves, cannot be trusted with self government.

This is why the enemies of freedom promote crime, and hate religion, Christianity in particular.  Central to the teachings of the Master is this one principle "Control thy self".  If you can get people to lose their self control, and even encourage it, by eliminating all the consequences of their actions, freedom will have to be abolished out of necessity.  Political correctness has now reach the point that one does not feel safe, in some environments just wishing their fellow workers a Merry Christmas.  So hostile to religion is the enemy, that even casual reference to a national holiday (Holy day) is cause for a law suit.

Let us rather establish a department of Liberty.  To promote Liberty requires that we promote Christianity.  Men will be at peace with each other only if they are at peace with themselves.  Men will find this inner peace only when they have come unto Christ, and partaken of the bread of life, and quenched their thirst with living water.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Merry Christmas, and I mean CHRISTmas.
